Thanksgiving Letter from President Curtis

President Curtis
GRATITUDE – Amulek taught us (and the Zoramites) that to work out our salvation we need to humble ourselves, worship God, and “live in thanksgiving daily for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon [us]” (Alma 34:37-38).

We offend God when we fail to recognize and acknowledge His hand in all things (see D&C 59:21). The list of blessings God has given us is endless: mortality, plentiful food, clean water and air, comfortable housing, easy communication, convenient transportation. We have the restored Gospel with knowledge of our relationship with God and of the atonement of Jesus Christ. We enjoy the power of the priesthood, the ordinances of salvation, the gift of the Holy Ghost, the scriptures, and living prophets. We are blessed with the opportunity to preach His word.

King Benjamin taught that even when we render all our thanks and praise to God for creating, keeping, and preserving us – for supporting us from one moment to another—even when we serve him with all our whole souls, we are still unprofitable servants.

“O how [we] ought to thank [our] heavenly King!” (Mosiah 2:19-21)

Have a grateful Thanksgiving!

TEACHING – Elder Bradford C. Bowen of the Seventy (and former mission president in Anaheim, CA) taught about missionary work in the Burley West Stake Conference. He said:

• Missionaries need to teach doctrine. We gain trust by helping those we teach hear sacred principles so that the spirit can testify to their hearts.
• We keep lessons simple so the spirit can speak to their understanding.
• We leave promptly letting the spirit continue to teach.

We pray for God’s blessings on you.
