News Release Date

Chelsea received this from her Mission President and sent it on to us.  Then we emailed back and forth talking about it.

November 30, 2015

Beginning March 1, 2016, missionaries assigned to teach in their native languages will again spend three weeks in the MTC. The training period was reduced from three weeks to two weeks to accommodate the dramatic growth in missionaries starting in 2012. With the number of missionaries stabilizing at a number lower than the peak of the last few years, the Church can return to a more optimal training period.

The Church news release stated this change will create a minor change in some mission’s transfers. The Missionary Department notified us that our transfer dates will be shifted one week starting in April.

Your new schedule release date is 6 October 2016.

You may contact me if you have any questions.

President Curtis

CHELS:  WHAT!!!!!! I'm going home a transfer later! Why couldn't they do this after I went home?

MOM:  Wh, ?....? ...?  You know sweetheart, you will be loving your mission so much by then that you will be grateful for the extra time.  You are only on your mission once, so be grateful for all the time you get.  You are blessed to have 2 extra weeks to serve the Lord.  How lucky are you?!!
October 6th - I will put that on our calendar.

CHELS:  I guess I have to look at it that way. I sometimes just want to go home. And spending two extra is going to be harder than just going home. I was also wondering if you guys could pick me up? I would really like to show you my area's if that is possible?

MOM: OF COURSE we can come get you!  If that is what you want we certainly can do that.  I have seen pictures on the mission's Facebook page of families coming to pick up their missionaries.  We have plenty of time to plan that.

I have to admit that there are those days when I miss you so much, I wish you were here.  But honestly those moments are far between and do not last long.  Because once the thought pops in my head, I feel guilty because I know you are in the best place you could possibly be.  And you are having an experience that could not be topped here at home.  There is nothing here that is as important or valuable or good or fun or exciting that could top what you are doing.  If you think about all that Heavenly Father has given us, two years is a drop in the bucket compared to what he has given us.  Your dad was called for 24 months and while he was out, it was changed to 18 months.  At the time he was excited, but as the end of him mission grew closer, he was so sad.  He wanted to stay longer and he was sad about the 6 months he was loosing.  Even today if you ask him about it, he is sad and feels that he was rob of his 6 months.  You have been blessed with 2 extra weeks.  Two more weeks to give thanks to Heavenly Father, two more weeks to serve the people of Idaho and two more weeks to grow in the gospel.

CHELS: Thank you mom. I really needed that. I guess I just have to look at things a different way. I feel bad for sister Rhiner she has to miss two Christmases. She comes home on Dad's birthday and her parents anniversary.  YAY!!! I'm torn in coming home on a plane and have everyone there, but I really do want you guys to see me mission.

MOM:  We have plenty of time to think about it.  You know.... you are close enough that we can always go back and visit after you have come home.   Coming home in October will give you a chance to get settled and then start school in January.

I think coming in on the air plane would be fun too. That is a rather exciting thing to have us all at the air port. You know if you stop in SLC, Caitlyn can meet you at the airport and say Hi. That is if she can't come down here. That would kinda be unfair that she would get to see you before me, but..... I could handle it.

Don't worry about school or where you will live. you will have plenty of time to figure it out once you get home. You will have the rest o your life to live. So just concentrate on mission right now. Maybe when you get closer, we could fill in some applications for you and get them sent off. But other than that, it will all be there when you get back.

CHELS: That's true. I kind of like the idea of flying home and having you guys at the airport waiting for me. I need to start thinking about where to go to school and where I'm going to be living. I'm only like four hours away if I live with Caitlyn and Tay.
